Nishika Bhagat is an artist and a Fashion Design from Ahmedabad, India. She is a recent graduate from Savannah College of Art and Design with BFA in Fashion Design. She is currently based in New York City.

Since she has been away from India, her mother and her grandmother have been her main sources of inspiration for her work and her goals in fashion. Her female idols were not only silenced for what they wore but also for their personal opinions. It is very important for her that fashion comes with freedom and a voice.

This make her think globally to design luxurious, well tailored and feminine garments for today’s women. She describes her aesthetic to be “Romantic Streetwear” however does not limit herself to just that.

Her areas of interest are Womenswear Design, Production and Technical Design, Conceptualizing and Embroidery Design.

Angana

For a country that has the largest democracy in the world, India is very conservative in its ideologies for women. Women have a very patriarchal role in its society. Growing up, I have witnessed this through my female role models: my mother and grandmother, who were held back from pursuing their dreams and aspirations. Instead encouraged to take up domestic duties and become housewives.
My “Angana” design are meant to put women on a pedestal by honoring their sacrifices and showcasing their worth.
My design translates to this concept by catering women with a relaxed look that does not compromise on her femininity.
