Zhongyang Zhao is a young designer and maker who graduated from London College of Fashion with degrees in MA Fashion Artefact - Distinction and BA Fashion Jewellery. She is inspired by life experience, nature, travel and motion, and is committed to bringing new vision by creating unique wearable artefacts that interact with the body. Her design philosophy is based on the application of craftsmanship, material combination and playfulness idea.

Out of shell

Everything in this world works like an egg, following the laws of reincarnation. Sometimes we find comfort inside the narrow space, and we wrap ourselves in layers to protect ourselves from the outside world. But the shell is also a constraint. We are eager to break through the barriers to complete the transformation and seek freedom. This collection is based on the concept of the circle of life and was inspired by key elements I identified when exploring this concept:
Cracking of shell - to emerge and transition, flaking skin - showing growth and shedding layers, mathematical patterns like the Archimedean spirals, as well as objects we wear to protect our bodies. The collection is an encouragement to break through old patterns of behaviour and being.
