Born and raised in a small town in Guangdong, China, I didn’t come from an artistic background and wasn't exposed to the fashion world until later in in my college life. I developed a strong interested in art from a young age, which eventually channeled my ambition into creating fashion.

One of the most important philosophy in my creating process is to find the balanced relationship between human body, garments and the space that we exist in.Setting the goal of capturing the beauty of this balanced relationship for myself has allowed me to break through the orthodox beauty standard and find new shapes and forms within fashion art. I like looking for the unexpected, using my work to provoke audience to brand new unexplored territories.

YINGLIN SS2022 consists of a series of future couture wear and accessories. YINGLIN SS2022 is inspired by the artwork Garden of Earthly Delights, which painted the whole human experience from life to afterlife in three related canvases. The way the artwork describes human experience is rather spiritual for me and I want to capture this feeling, which was what lead to the start of my collection. I want my collection to be a modern interpretation of the artwork, which paints the human experience under the background of a much more diverse worldly. In order to imitate this complex feeling, I used different shapes that frequently intertwine with each other and colors that would not seem to go together to create almost a chaos mood.

Sustainability has been a major part of the creating process. This collection 0 not only stands for 0 limitations in terms of creativity but more importantly 0 waste on all the materials used during the process. I tried to design patterns that result in zero wasted material during the pattern making process and sourced out dead stock materials. Right when I started to plan the color story for my collection and headed to the fabric market, I saw all the scraps from my previous work, some even are yards of fabrics that I never get to use because of the colors weren’t what I wanted. It’s truly surprising how much I was unintentionally wasting, let alone how much is the whole industry is wasting. So for my collection I’ve decided to make it a challenge for myself to use up all the scraps and fabrics I disliked. As a result I designed a few prints and digital printed them on the unused fabrics to make the “new fabric”. I have to say my collection would never have come to the result I have right now if I never thought of using the “unwanted fabrics”. Practicing sustainability in even such a small way has greatly helped me reach what my imagination can’t. Sustainability to me is all about small practices.
