Yaqi (Vivian) Zhan is a fashion designer based in New York. She is a graduate student from Parsons School of Design. She's drawn to explore the multiple status of dressing, as a way of self-expression, an armor, a camouflage, and a kind of exposure. The dynamic connection between fashion and human body narrates her design language to focus on identity formation and interchangeable relationships with a sense of contradiction, fragmentation and fragility.

EnTanglement

As strangers, we pass each other by, searching for something we can't name, and for a moment, we're all the same.
Living in urbanized cities, social connections and relationships with people are crucial for survival. Fast relationships and connections have become necessary to finesse through our lives. However, the speed in which we become closer with one another lies a grey area where it simply fades in the dynamic pace. The urge to get to know someone is both attempting and dangerous because of its uncertainty which create a fragile bound between individuals. Such fragility reminds me of the Meili snow mountain located in my hometown back in China. Beneath its majestic surface lies a world of danger, so easily crashed. The exploration of its complex and changeable mountain textures is used as my interpretation of the fragility and entanglement of human connections, where souls become entwined on delicate strings.
