Unlike most fashion designers, Wei Wei Chang decides to use bags as a discourse, aiming to illustrate stories that our society considers a taboo. She was interested in questioning whether bags can be used as a tool to trigger new experiences, allowing people to appreciate things from a different angle?
Inspired by conjoined twins, she wants to experiment with bags that share such conjoined characters. Will people appreciate deformed bags? Can bags be dependent of each other? If duplications of the same bag were stuck together, what would that portray? How will people’s behaviour change while using these bags?
By combining such concepts with surrealistic expressions and unusual materials, Chang wants to create an uncanny effect that’s normally not associated with bags.
