After 30 years of global experience with industrial knitting for key players in the main stream fashion industry, Thijs Verhaar decided to focus on changing and revitalizing the Dutch knitting industry. He started Knitwear Lab as a development and knowledge centre by investing in a modern industrial knitting machine being one of the few who creates knitwear in Holland.
In 2014, he launched his own knitwear brand named Thijs Verhaar. Heavily influenced by his own identity as a Dutch designer, he incorporates a lot of graphic geometrical elements creating a very masculine effect. His designs harmonize well with the character and shape of the stitch producing a sharp visual effect but a very soft touch through the technical way it is knitted.
As an advocate in making the world a better place, he creates with the mindset of having the scarves be like a present to the wearer. His scarves aren’t just about providing a warm embrace but empowering the wearer with strong sense of beauty. The scarves are knitted with soft extra fine merino wool manufactured from Italy made to last for a long time. Thijs believes that being sustainable is achieved from the way products are carefully crafted in a durable way rather than through just methods of recycling. He addresses the concerns of a wasteful world by producing knits that have zero waste.
Currently many of his products are sold in museum shops, department stores and online all over Europe and Asia. This year his new collection will also be presented in New York.
