Founded by Sabine Spare, a Toronto-based textile designer and artist, Spare Label aims to contribute to a carefully curated lifestyle where every object and garment in one's surroundings tells a story. Spare Label melds art and design in a fresh and unexpected way. Always employing ethical and sustainable production practices, each piece is thoughtfully made in Toronto by a person who truly loves their work.
The premier, limited edition collection, 'Igneous & Id', was inspired by rocks and the subconscious. Each piece in the collection is unlike any other. Hand-printed marbled silks and cottons showcase patterns of stone and water. Just like every person is an individual, and if you look closely every piece of rock is an individual, no two pieces in the collection are exactly the same. Biomimicry is pushed beyond aesthetics, becoming a conceptual motivation for the limited edition collection.
With a foundational belief in creating ethically made, sourced and distributed products, Spare Label also offers bespoke design.

Latest Collection

Igneous & Id

Igneous is a type of stone that has been solidified from magma. Having undergone a transformation involving volcanic processes. This stone is born from fire making it strong and stable. Id is the part of the unconscious where instinctive impulses originate. The Id seeks pleasure and satisfaction with no regard for pragmatic boundaries. The personification of these two concepts was inspired by the duality in us all. Rocks represent dependability, while the id is fleeting and impulsive.

Versatility is central to the small collection of limited edition pieces. Worn, wrapped, draped, layered, loose, tight, matching or clashing- it is left up to the wearer whether they want to channel Igneous or Id.

Each piece in the collection is thoughtfully made in a small studio in downtown Toronto. Using an ancient pattern design technique called Marbling, no two pieces are exactly the same.
