Sille Sikmann recieved her BA in Leather Design and Restoration from Tartu Art College in Estonia in 2012. During her studies, she took part in the Erasmus exchange student program, studying Shoe Design in the HAMK Applied Sience College in Finland. She also gained valuable experience during her Erasmus Internship at the Pleasemachine label by Anna Zaboeva in Budapest, Hungary. Complimenting her experience in hand-crafted shoes, Sille has also participated in mass-produced lines as a designer for various Estonian enterprises.

In 2011 she started creating her own brand, working in a small shoe store for a while to better understand customer needs as well as researching the fashion needs of Estonian men. In 2012, the Scheckmann label was born. The idea behind Scheckmann is to provide Nordic men with high quality handmade shoes, adding a cheeky and chic, personalised touch to classical men`s footwear and accessories. The name originates from designers own surname of Baltic-German roots and which essentially translates to `chic man`. Scheckmann shoes have been featured in international magazines, such as The Fashionisto, and in the internatonal men’s fashion blog Fucking Young!

In her rare moments of spare time, Sille enjoys painting and delving into the human psyche, reading up on psychology, and sharing her insights and experience of following your passion to others who are considering starting their own journey.
