Rakan Shams Aldeen is a Syrian Fashion Designer. Since the age of five he developed an interest in fashion and began sketching every dress that his imagination could conceive.

Rakan studied architecture in Syria and afterwards he moved between Lebanon and Turkey to follow his dreams and study fashion design and pattern making at l’Ecole Supérieure des Arts et techniques de la Mode (EsMode).

He and his business and design partner established their own couture line LamRak Atelier, where Rakan worked as the head designer from 2014 through 2016 and participated in the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul. In 2017, he moved to Chicago to establish his own brand RAKAN, a luxurious modern line dedicated to strong confident women who desire to be unique.

Rakan is one of the contestants of Project Runway USA season 17 on Bravo Tv. In 2019, Rakan is based in NewYork city and In January 2020 Rakan was awarded the FGI NYC Womenswear Rising Star 2020.

Rakan is a conceptual designer who is inspired by everything around him, especially architecture and history.

Spring - summer 21

This collection is all about playing with lines and surfaces, bending them to create shadows and layers.

There were two main inspirations for the colors and volumes, one came from La Muralla Roja by spanish architect Ricardo Bofill which had a clear reference to the Arabic mediterranean architecture specially in North Africa. The other one came from the work of architect/ photographer Erin O'keef in her (Things as They Are) series.

The collection shows geometric cuts, A-line volumes, folded and pleated fabrics. The fabrics include shades of purple, blue, pink, red, green & orange which are brought together by adding an outer layer of white organza and creating a lighter pastel shades of color.
