That collection is reflecting my journey at the Royal College of Art. Learning a lot about myself personally, as a designer and as part of a group; exploring, pushing and balancing boundaries.
The journey started last year by looking at the relationship between body and garment and the way movement create an individual language.
I then decided to extend this study to a third component: the space surrounded. Sensitive to the political actuality I choose to focus on the geographical movement. I looked at traveller expeditions and migrants - their needs, camps and how they carry personal belongings and thoughts. I was wondering what a modern nomadic citizen would need; as personal reference to his/her past; and regarding the journey it might go for?
My nomadic is very open-minded, with a strong faith in future and humanity, he strongly adheres to the values toward a fluid society – a society without any boundaries. Multipurpose, multiposition pieces and garments looking like bags bring to the new nomadism’s wardrobe the possibility to respond to each journey creating unique combination.
Finally having to face extremely violent events this past months - that challenged the essence of geographical and political fluidity- l wanted to protect the nomadic from the entity is evolving in. I created multi layers as space that would hold in personal belief and opinion; metaphorically l used my knitwear to illustrate this self-indulgent armour, containing the intimate space within a breathable envelope.
