Liberated State

The inspiration for this collection came from moving out of my old house. I remember the feeling of looking at my empty bedroom for the last time, recalling all of the memories I made there over the past twenty years. My grandma’s blunt advice - “it’s just bricks” - brought me little comfort, especially when I stumbled across the box of all my parents’ old love letters from before they divorced.
I couldn’t accept how drastically circumstances had changed, decayed.
I wasn’t the same person after these things. The experiences were devastating for me, but they were also tender. They reminded me that moments change context over time and how we preserve them through photos, handwritten notes, and other such artifacts. It’s more than “just bricks” to me, but instead a deep physiological wound that often reopens.
I wanted this collection to feel like a nostalgia shop, a haunted house, at once frightening and comforting, tender and devastating - as our memories often are.
