The concept of my collection is all mainly from where I grew up which is an island namedGuam. Being in Hong Kong has made me really appreciate the many elements of Guam whichI previously took for granted. The ocean is one of the main things that I never fully appreciateduntil now. In this collection, there are different manipulations of fabric to represent the ocean. There are also other suggestions of the ocean refered by objects that are ocean-related such as the fisherman’s net and the starfishes and shells which I collected from Guam. Another part that I took for granted is the culture. To incorporate this into the collection, I will use the story of the “Two Lovers Point” Legend. In summary, the story is how there were two lovers who were forbiddento be together and was chased to the top of a mountain where the two lovers’ choices were to either face their capturers and never be together or to jump off the cliff. In the end, they tied theirhair together (to symbolize that they would forever be together) and jumped off the cliff to the ocean. I think it is a beautiful story of love, freedom, and culture that also incorporates the ocean together to be my concept
