Katharina Purkarthofer | Conceptual bags and shoes. Clear lines, sophisticated construction. Outré shape and unisex appeal. Made with love, designed to stand out.
The vital spark of Katharina Purkarthofer‘s debut collection was an art installation dealing with the issue of Metamorphosis. Katharina was struck by the artist’s idea to connect the transformation from liquid to solid materials with the process of fundamental change in human behaviour.
The black sculptures shown there reminded her of human beings stuck in negativity, with Metamorphosis presenting the only way to break through the aggrieving walls they have built around themselves. Patterns and variances in human behaviour have been Katharina‘s strongest source of inspiration from the beginning on.
Furthermore she deeply believes that constant self-reflection, INTROSPECTION is the key to gain knowledge about ourselves and to determine the inner barriers which hold us back from being the best persons we can be. When we reflect on ourselves in an entirely honest way, we have to go through several layers until we reach the core of our very own personality. A core filled with potential and capabilities.
At the early stage of this project Katharina started tests on producing material with hot glue. The goal: to receive material that represents the layers we have to go through when aiming to find our inner self. She combined this material with traditional leather. Mixing innovative and simple techniques with classical Italian artisanal crafts is the symbiosis she is always striving for with her designs.
The importance of challenging black layers of negativity that might cover our true core and always be focussing on the white spots of positivity that can be found in every human being is what Katharina tried to clarify with this identity collection. You may now get in touch with INTROSPECTION.
INTROSPECTION as a constant struggle to bring out the best within ourselves.
INTROSPECTION as the conscious decision to focus on the light within ourselves.
INTROSPECTION as a paradigm.
INTROSPECTION as an attitude.
