Karen Heshi was born in China 🇨🇳 and raised in Vancouver, Canada🇨🇦 .

Her work revolves around technology since the digital world has become an integral part of everybody’s everyday lives placing new higher demands on people to perform and present flawless versions of ourselves. 💁🏻‍♀‍ People are expected to appear ‘appropriately perfect’ for the occasion or act ‘professionally perfect’ within their roles, which over time has caused a lot of stress, discomfort and exhaustion in modern life. 😫😫😫

Therefore, Karen merges the concept of performance and plays with perception in clothing aiming to make the wearer appear both professional while also feeling relaxed. 🕺Tackling this concept inspired her to change the language of construction within the garment, creating transformations within the fabrication and making the garment more flexible and breathable, while still allowing the wearer to look professional and sharp. There is illusion at play.👀

🎓Karen has an MFA in Fashion Design and Society from Parsons The New School and a BA in Fashion Design from the London College of Fashion.

"The performing suits"

Performance has become an integral part of our everyday lives, as we are continually performing either in digital life or in reality. With society's rising expectations around appearances, this inspired me to create a collection to help people perform more effortlessly in work settings. I visualize this concept by experimenting and breaking down one of the world's most iconic and traditional uniforms: a three-piece suit. In doing so, I began to work with the power of perception, changing the suit's traditional language and creating more flexible and breathable fabrication while still allowing the wearer to appear professional and sharp.
