The muse for this project is the architect Jeanne Gang. Jeanne leads Studio Gang Architects, a Chicago-based architecture and design practice. Their innovative design for the Aquar Building in Los Angeles reduces bird collisions by integrating deflecting elements into the structure of the building such as the undulating exterior created by varied floor plans and balconies. Gang is a striking woman, very professional and thoughtful about the world.
The inspiration for the Flying Lines shoulder piece comes from the ‘outlines’ on the Aquar Building, which look very fluid. Flying Lines tries to capture the sense of space and light lines in the architecture but also the sense of lightness and strength involved in flying. In a parallel to the architecture, the outlines of jewellery will cast undulating shadows on the curves on the body. These lines and shadows are offset by the sparkling reflection of diamonds. The extraordinary lightness of Palladium will make this statement shoulder piece possible to wear and delicate in construction.Top5 in the Palladium Alliance Jewellery Competition in 2011 with the latest piece showcased in the Rock Vaults during London fashion week A/W2012.
