Fernanda Ormeño was born and raised in Lima, Peru. She graduated from Colegio Franklin Delano Roosevelt, receiving the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma. In 2010, she moved to New York City, to study Fashion Design at Parsons The New School for Design. In 2014, she concluded her senior thesis collection and graduated receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts.

Fernanda's designs encompass women's ready to wear and handbags, in which she focuses on detailed fabric explorations, treatments and beading which make each and every piece unique.

She has gained experience in public relations, administration, sewing, pattern making, design, print and embroidery by interning with designers such as Orietta Fernández, Stella McCartney, Zac Posen, Vera Wang, Elizabeth and James, 3.1 Phillip Lim.

Slashing Nightmare

'Slashing Nightmare' is based on the passing of a dear friend of mine and how my nightmare foreshadowed her death. The overwhelming feelings of being captivated in this nightmare and not being able to escape, tangled me in thoughts of death and misery. All of these sentiments are conveyed through the treatments that I have developed. The leather becomes a symbol of skin and it describes how I feel in my own. The 'slashing' of the leather takes a big part in my collection as it describes how I am hurting and feel like being cut open. The feeling of being paralyzed and loosing control over your body adds to the desire of wanting to break free from the nightmares that keep haunting me. Yet, the leather cord used in the treatments describes the difficulty of trying to escape from it. The cording also serves as a metaphor for the helpless feeling of not being able to say goodbye to someone you love and how this helplessness continues to drown you in your own grief.
