We are creating a sanctuary for humans who are seeking refuge from fast fashion. Emily Cremona recognizes the damages created by mass production, child labor, synthetic fabrics and rampant consumerism. These unethical practices not only harm our planet but our wellbeing. Together we are starting to reverse this process. Below are the principles we practice to manifest a new path forward:
SUSTAINABLE
- Our collection is made from organic natural fibers including hemp, linen and cotton. These organic textiles are sustainably grown and biodegradable thereby eliminating the need for synthetic fibers which produce micro-plastic pollution. Our online store specifies the materials used to create each piece in the collection.
.We choose to use organic hemp as it is a plant that can feed you, clothe you, create a home for you and provide you with medicinal products.
.Organic linen is breathable, anti-bacterial and cooling. Linen has a well-earned reputation for its exceptional coolness and freshness in hot weather. No fabric outpaces linen in natural strength, lusture and durability.
Organic cotton farming produces 46% less CO2 and uses much less water than conventional cotton. It is 100% biodegradable and recyclable.
- Our Kao-Kabi collection is entirely white and does not use dyeing of any kind except for our labels which are made from the same natural fiber as the garment and printed using water-based silk screen dyes.
- We use aluminum buttons which are recyclable eliminating unnecessary use of plastics.
ETHICAL
- Our collection is 100% made in Lebanon at a small Beirut tailor’s atelier. We are supporting a continuing lineage of local Lebanese artisans working at family-owned small business.
- No animals were harmed in the production of Kao-Kabi. None of the fabrics we use are derived from animals because they are all plant-based fibers.
- Organic natural fibers are the only ethical option for our soil and our planet. We support organic farmers that are rejuvenating farmland by creating rich, biodiverse ecosystems free of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. Synthetic fibers, on the other hand, are derived from crude oil in labs requiring intensive energy use, fossil fuels, and landfills.
SLOW FASHION
- We only have one piece of each design and we only produce when we receive an order. This ensures that we do not overproduce which keeps our carbon footprint as low as possible.
- The collections are trans-seasonal, eliminating the pressure to follow trends that the fashion industry imposes.
- We choose natural fibers for their durability. Longer lasting fabrics are a better investment for your closet and in our planet.
HEALING QUALITIES
- Every Kao-Kabi piece is bathed & infused with Reiki light and love; from fabric selection to garment creation, these are healing garments disguised as fashion. Reiki in Japanese means ‘Universal Life Energy'. This energy works on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels, helping to bring us back to our natural state of peace and well being.
- Historical precedence and mounting scientific evidence suggest that linen has unique properties conducive to healing. For example, the restorative properties of linen are acknowledged by its preferred use for bandages and sutures. This study suggests that linen has a beneficial electromagnetic field.
