The founder of ednerat prefers to remain invisible.

EdNerat was born from a single pair of hands fresh with the sense of touch, itching for practical purpose. It grew out of a passion for art and colour and a love for fabrics and folds, and it is made possible by many skilled hands and expert eyes; by considered cutting, careful crafting and delicate detailing. Coats, because warmth and pocketed practicality aside, coats are transformational: they can cover and clothe us; they can dramatically define us or demurely drape over us; they can sculpt us, shape us or re-shape us; they can dress us up or dress us down; they can embolden us or shelter us from the unwanted gaze. Coats because we can put them on and take them off at will – and because they remind us that the freedom to cover up is as important as our hard-won liberty to uncover.

Our coats – some tailored, some flowing, others sculptural – are designed to be worn happily and comfortably. Their luxury is restrained, and their detailing is impeccable. Architected to flatter, to shape and – sometimes – to re-shape the female form, their design has been informed by the elegance and experience of many wonderful women – by their desires and fears and forms.

In keeping with the hard work and care that has gone into them and the wide-ranging ambitions we have for them, our coats are all named after female British artists.

COATS - 1

EdNerat coats are designed to be flattering, elegant and comfortable in equal measure. Designed by women, for women, EdNerat coats are structured with all different shapes and sizes in mind – aiming in various measures to flatter the smaller and the fuller chested; the narrow-backed and the broad-shouldered; the taller and the shorter frame; the rounder as well as the straighter in form.

Crafted as hardworking alternatives to the unaccommodating strictures of jackets and the unforgiving 'shapelessness' of cardigans, our coats are designed to be comfortably kept on all day, to be worn both formally and informally, inside and outside – whether at work or at play.

Launching with nine distinct styles in a huge array of luxurious fabrics – dramatic bouclés and soft tweeds, subtle wools and sumptuous silks, all our coats have pockets and weighted hems, are lined in silk and edged in a contrast satin bias. A distinctively deep back facing adds comfort to the neck and internal structure to our coats while setting off our beautifully embroidered silk labels.
