The veil, in much of the Islamic world, takes on a predominantly political connotation that has more to do with the imposition of an ideology rather than with religious belief.
Contrary to popular belief, in fact, in the Koran the obligation to wear a veil is not explicitly written but rather not to flaunt one's body and to observe modest behavior.Wearing the veil should therefo- re not be an obligation, but rather a matter of individual conscience and responsibility between God and the faithful.
In addition to the veil and its strong visual impact, one of the constraints, which unfortunately still persists in some parts of Islam, towards women is that of education which, when not totally denied, leads to the construction of a submissive model of woman: bride and submissive. Women are there- fore still considered second-class citizens and equality between men and women is certainly far from and hindered by the idea of a model of woman always seen in relation to a man: mother, wife, sister. There are severe conditions of women living in countries ruled by theocracy, such as Iran or Afghanistan, where women are unable to leave the house or go to school.
The image of this veiled woman is forced by the laws of a patriarchal society to cover her body with clothing ranging from hijab to full-length burqa.
This patriarchal society has become over the years more and more extremist and exasperated not only in relation to women, but precisely to the whole way of imposing one's authority by taking to the extreme passages of the Koran, as isis (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, ISIS translated into Italian as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria). It is the representation of a totalitarian Islamic State, where power is in the hands of a small group, which imposes its religious vision on all citizens. Mine is a denunciation of all this, and that is why my collection will be presented with revisited burquas, used as outerwear, in different colors and different materials. In this way I intend to redeem the role of those women and make another body, that of man, 'hide' under the veil, something that cannot happen in the Islamic world.
