Labors of Arachne

Labors of Arachne

Arachne was a Greek lady who had the misfortune to fall afoul of the goddess Athena. The lady was a weaver, and she boasted that she could weave better than Athena, goddess of wisdom and crafts. Athena challenged her to a contest, but nobody beats a goddess. As punishment for Arachne's arrogance, or some say as a reward for her skill, Athena transformed Arachne into a spider, doomed to weave or starve. I have named this collection of crocheted intricacies after the woman that gave her name to arachnids. I needed hooks and thread to create my webs, but arachnids can weave in the air.
