BINARY STATES is represented by wearable pieces and accessories which can rapidly shift from one state to another, from ‘on’ to ‘off’, from 0 to 1, depending on the mood of the wearer. The dual nature of these artefacts is reflected in the pairing of two seemingly dissonant styles of design, one cloaking the other. As such, the piece’s external form offers no hints of its inner life; the jewellery and accessories presented act as a kind of Pandora’s box. The two design aesthetics used to represent the halves of this binary are Art Deco architecture and traditional Russian Folk craft.
