Clothes That My Mother Wore is a journey, a conversation with my mother, sister, friend, a conversation with my memories.
Born from a personal experience of having numerous pieces from my mother in my closet and living in them whilst also knowing them from the family photographs, I set out to create elaborate luxury pieces that draw inspiration from these conversations but are not entirely based on them.
These are the clothes that last, they transcend time, trends, people, they really live on their own and become better over time, just like fine wine.
These are the Clothes we have an emotional attachment with.
Attitudes we inherit.
Values we grow up with.
These clothes always act as artefacts : they help us construct ideas about our past, our origins, our culture in order to build our future.
How we work?
Initial prototype is designed and handmade by the designer herself, in order to be able to fully understand all the intricacies of the said piece.
If it's a piece Mihaela wants reproduced, it is made by the Community of ladies based in central Bosnia, who have been working with Mihaela since the very beginning.
The Community of Women in Bosnia & Herzegovina are at the very heart of the brand and the goal is to provide them with a fair and stable income and a solid base for the future. Having spent a lot of time living and working with them, perfecting the techniques and patterns for our designs and producing quality handmade items that you will cherish for years. In addition, each item is personally signed by the knitter who made it, ensuring that you, its ultimate owner, have a better understanding of the time and the commitment woven into your individual garment.
