Cecilia Frieben is a fashiondesigner based in Amsterdam.
She recently graduated from AMFI (Amsterdam Fashion Institute), where she studied international fashion and design. Creating a bridge between the conceptual and commercial is her aim while designing. She explores those boundaries with appreciation of the human body, a strong belief in wearability and dedication to the detail.
''The bearable absurdity of being'' is her graduationcollection and is a reflection of the absurdity of the Zeitgeist, represented in the news - more specifically in the headlines . As fashion nowadays also became a platform offering the freedom to make a statement even in a light and humorous way, this is exactly what Cecilia wanted to do. A commercial item, represented in a shirtdress, functioned as the base of the collection. Each dress is inspired by a specific real headline, revealing the daily absurdity around us, which we mostly do not recognize anymore. For now the concept resulted in a 20 dress collection, but will be further developed as it can continue as long as newspaper deliver their absurd headlines. The collection should challenge the wearer to be bold, but also the observer to be no fool and have a second look.
