“You have to think I used to spend so many hours in the factory, at times it almost felt like I was trapped in a bubble. We had everything, it wasn’t just a factory where workers spent their days but rather a big family. We had fields where we harvested vegetables, surrounded by orange trees, and of course chickens. It was so much fun running after them. The connection we had with nature gave us everything. The lake near the entrance not only gave us peace of mind but it also played a very important part in the printing process.
The days that I didn’t go to school, I spent them on the factory. I loved to watch the illustrators work. Inspirational women that worked in silence, often accompanied by a soft melody form the turntable on the background. That place was so magical Carla, I would have loved to bring you there, I know you would have loved it as much as I did.
The printing room was so particular, an open space filled with immense wooden tables, an organized chaos. It was a mens job, we all wore overalls stained with many colors. The characteristic sound of the scrapper against the printing screen marked the rhythm of our movements.
If I close my eyes I can almost here the sound, feel the satisfaction of a job well done, done with love drying in open air while the sun coming through the windows blinded us.”
