Audrey Gabriela Akman founded her fashion line through her relentless pursuit in finding answers to the questions of life combined with the imaginative possibilities her childhood fairytales gave to her. After graduating from Parsons New York in 2011, Audrey moved to LA for a full time job while also freelancing for costume design projects. Amogst others, Audrey worked with Nikki Minaj and Lauri-Ann Gibson for their dance performance in the Grammy Awards 2012 and their NBA half-time shows. Throughout her extensive exploration, she has developed a collection that challenges a play of perspective and embraces a bold approach to let her intuition guide her to the extraordinary.

Irina Ionesco

Inspired by the photography of Irina Ionesco - erotic, sensual, and innocent, yet dark and hauntingly beautiful – the newest collection from Audrey Akman has been designed as an embodiment of the contradiction and conflict between good and bad – and the transition from innocence to enlightenment.

Ionesco’s most famous highly controversial work featured morally questionable portrayals of her daughter – which while some have viewed as child exploitation, others have hailed as sheer brilliance in their creativity and enmeshment of two contrasting worlds.

An artistic expression capturing the raw beauty of her daughter’s innocence corrupted by the free spirit of uninhibited sexual prowess, Ionesco’s work could be deemed so wrong by society – yet seductive and enticing in its daringness to challenge the boundaries between right and wrong.

Representative of a certain magic, we see this paradox as a window to a world invisible to many – whether blinded by logic-based limitations to enlightenment, or the absence of awareness in innocence.

A strong fusion of the best of both worlds – the dark underworld of a sexually-enlightened adulthood and the pure innocence of a child’s fairy tale world – this beautiful contradiction fashions the foundation of the Irina Ionesco collection.
