I am a 22 year old queer fashion designer who specialises in creating clothing that is genderless and expresses the sexuality of the wearer. I take a lot of inspiration from my childhood growing up in a conservative area where it wasn't always accepting of being yourself, but I like to celebrate queerness in all of my work to show that queer artists can be successful from any background.

I like to work with a lot of colourful, textured and metallic fabrics and put together pieces that are meant to create a statement. I am interested mainly in designing clothes for a runway market as I succeed most when not having to think about the practical limitations of garments and am able to create pieces that stand out amongst the crowd.

Country Boy

Being queer in a rural landscape that doesn’t quite understand the way in which you fit into it is a struggle many people experience before jetting off to a big city to escape and survive. But what if we cherished the unique and powerful perspective that growing up in the countryside gives queer people? How could a back-woods upbringing motivate and inspire creativity?

Alexander Hayes is debuting his SS24 Menswear collection this season drawing from stereotypes that were the basis of the designer’s upbringing in rural middle England. Hayes is looking back on some of the challenging parts of his childhood as a queer individual through the lens of parody, as the collection aims to mock the conservative and restrictive environments many young queer people are subjected to. The collection champions queer style and celebrates the femininity of Hayes' work, whilst still staying true to his country roots.
