We are all searching for healing and a sense of balance. Where one finds this balance can be completely subjective. What is natural and unnatural is not always clear cut. This duality exists within crystals as well as the late work of Zaha Hadid. Crystals are often classified as geometric, sharp, and angular, but that does not foretell their true nature: one of healing and protection. The outer structures of crystals contradict their innate reality. Similarly, the famous work of late architect Zaha Hadid represents this contradiction. Her curving, organic, often seamless buildings leave viewers forgetting they are indeed manmade, industrial structures. How does one reconcile these contradictions?

Maintaining the delicate balance between manmade and natural, healing and humanly forced is perhaps the greatest challenge of our lifetime. Through the study of crystals - their external structures, characteristics, and healing properties, I sought to create a collection that offers both solace and inspiration to its wearers. I seek to understand and analyze both the physical structure and spiritual properties to various crystals, and counteract these findings with a study of Zaha Hadid’s work. Through the creation of custom prints, I discovered that beauty is found in the balance between industrial and organic, natural and created. It is this beauty I seek to evoke in my work, arriving upon a delicate balance between the angular and organic, the sharp and curving.
