A collection of garments that lean into the body and embody its shapes, bumps, curves, folds, angles and movements. “Some bodies. Somebody’s” explores the relationship between body and garment wear to inform mindset perspectives towards mindful consumption.
Exploring the archetype of underwear in a series of garments with no hierarchy. Ethically sourced with GOTS certified organic cotton and made in the parameters of my home in lockdown. Pieces are naturally dyed with coffee grind waste collected throughout the making of the collection. The garments are constructed with vintage lingerie elastic and overlocking using GOTS certified organic cotton thread. Elastic and overlocking have been extended and uncut, left to hang from the pieces to promote reflection and thought for the construction of each garment.
The garments explore tying as a way of fastening. There is no set size associated with the collection, rather it explores asymmetric shapes, half garments, proportion and scale in the pieces. As a result there is a constant conversation between the body and the garments throughout the collection as the pieces have no right or wrong way to be worn. The collection encourages a sense of unlearning how you would normally consider a garment for your body, and engage in a deeper, more mindful response to clothing consumption.
