CONSTANCE BLACKALLER

CONSTANCE BLACKALLER

This collection is inspired by ideas common throughout a number of cultural sources, from Japanese kimono construction, layers of wrapped fabric and tension created by the straps holding a child to their mothers back seen in vintage photographs from Africa and Mexico. Similarly, photographer Jackie Nickerson’s heavily styled shoots in Africa show the spontaneous, haphazard nature of a crudely tied knot of a jacket around a waist, distorting the garments underneath, with vivid patterns of fabrics clashing like patchwork.
