BHUMI

"Breaking the mold'': is a manifesto challenging societal beauty norms. In a world dominated by narrow body ideals, thedesigns celebrate bodies of 'bigger' shapes and sizes, serving as a reminder on the fashion industry's role in perpetuating unrealistic standards. This collection aims to celebrate our body in all its beauty and imperfections and to break the skinny norm. My inspiration comes from a historical era in which fuller women represented the ideal. The collection showcases the contrast between the present time and the past. In Europe, during the Renaissance Period (14th to 17th century), a fuller body was considered beauty. People with a round figure were seen as prosperous, healthy, and attractive.

This collection is strongly motivated by my own development over the past 10 years. I started as a 15-year-old girl in modeling and eventually couldn't keep up with the slim sizes. I was constantly trying to lose weight in hopes of being thin enough for my agencies. When I gained a little weight, I was rejected by my agent. This harsh reality of the fashion industry had a great impact on me; the pain of losing my career because of the shape of my body, the frustration of a lost dream, and the long journey to loving more of my body. I longed to see more diversity in fashion. That's why I decided to be the change myself instead of waiting for it.

I design couture-inspired dresses for all body types with the aim of improving the fashion industry. My focus is on creating striking dresses so that the wearer becomes the center of attention. Thus, my collection symbolizes breaking the ideal image and igniting diversity in the couture industry.
