THE STORY, NEED AND INSPIRATION:
This collection is based on the experimentation of 3d printing on stretch fabrics, to trace the movement we do in the different activities: materializing movement for a conceptual awarness and giving more adaptability to the analyzed areas; moreover sometimes to give changeability to our clothes through the possibility of moving and shaping different parts of our garments.
We need materials, and there is a story of material culture behind our clothes, our shapes, our fabrics.
Each shift has been due to a change in our movement: the key is the relation between body and movement connected by materials.
The practice tries to put into real this relation, and this is analyzed first of all through the motion capture of movement categories belonging to the new urban scenario. In the last years, in big cities, countless people have been seen going to work by skateboards, bike or running.
This trend reflects the need of moving faster and easier and shows the need of flexibility, of changeability, of reversion.
MY PROCESS:
To follow my theory I started looking to develop new fabrics: I reserached programmable materials and in particular the work from Christhoper Guberan(MIT). After a lot of experiments a analysis I found my algorithm to produce my fabrics. The process has been made by different steps:
-Motion capture of the three activities.(Using Kinect v1 and MB)
-Trace of the movements through the software Maya.
-Sketches and analysis of the traces. Elaboration of shapes and of each pattern for each activity.
-Creation of patterns and development of them on Rhinoceros
-3d printing: First stretching the fabric on build plate(after thousands experiments on fabrics, filaments and dimensions), keep it blocked, and then set the printer, ready to go.
