It is in the past where the inspiration to create our present comes from. For this reason, it is the place where I was raised the principal source of inspiration for this collection, Yumbel 646. A house from the 60’s with heavy wood blinds, Spanish brocade curtains, and lace net curtains from where the dim lights from the afternoon found a way to enter to the rooms, beds with woolen mattress, huge sofas with ornamental prints and white crochet clothes as a complement to the teardrop lamps that until today reflect the passing of time on their crystals. All these elements are crucial in this story where the old Spanish boleros are the background music of its narrative.
Our collection starts with the exploration of fabrics, old textiles whose prices were in Chilean escudos and not in actual currency, vintage home fabrics and flour sacks bought at flea markets. However, these pieces became the key to what an era means and little by little we collected them to create the essence of what the past was.
We took our time to look at the pandemic as an opportunity where everyone wanted to feel comfy at their homes. The issue is that the sweatpants and pajamas, as the days passed, were not attractive as an option either. That is why we decided to make urban clothes that are functional and relatable with a twist made of fascinating textiles that we had retrieved from different Chilean places since a year ago.
We decided to integrate oversized silhouettes that invite everybody to fit and adapt to the clothes despite their gender or size. The comfort and coziness come from the perfect fit and how the materials are pleasant to the touch. We wanted to integrate these elements to make urban clothes with history.
The romanticism for the past time is not only seen in its raw materials, but also in the type of garments and accessories. Blouses with puff sleeves made of flour sacks, corsets made by crochet that fit the waist, delicate lace tops with pearls and teardrop crystal accessories that culminate the proposal.
We want to look at the past with new eyes: to rescue, honor and remember the beauty in which the older generations grew up. We should never forget the importance of our roots and what we once were.
